Stoneware pear-shaped vase, decorated with vermiculated white enamel on the body on an unglazed earth ground, the neck and base green enamelled. Signed "Ray Camart" and numbered.
CAMART Raymond (1908 – 1980)
French ceramicist Raymond Camart was the son of Etienne and the grandson of Guillaume Camart, both sculptors.
Towards the end of the war, he was foreman at the “electroceramic” factory in Golf-Juan where he created molds to produce ceramics, for example perfume bottles. He moved to a workshop in Vallauris around 1945, then opened a manufacturing plant in Mougins. Finally, in the early 1950s, he created a new workshop in Antibes as well as an exhibition center in the form of a miniature village to house his creations.
A businessman and an artist and always looking for originality, in shapes and decorations, he embellishes even everyday objects. This vase form, signed and numbered is his most prized collectables.
